Sir Steve Redgrave joins Specsavers as ambassador

Sir Steve follows in Kylie's footsteps

Sir Steve Redgrave joins Specsavers

He may not seem like the most obvious addition to the line-up, but Sir Steve Redgrave has joined the likes of pop princess Kylie Minogue, Spice Girl Emma Bunton and Mrs Rod Stewart, Penny Lancaster, as the latest face of high street optician, Specsavers.

Steve has confirmed that he has become an ambassador of the brand but, unlike his predecessors, not just to show off the latest frames but to raise awareness of sight loss through diabetes, a condition with which he was diagnosed more than 20 years ago.

"I've done many unusual things in my career, but this is the first time I’ve modelled eyewear” said Steve during his recent photo shoot.

"Diabetic retinopathy is one of the most common causes of sight loss in those of working age but regular diabetic eye screening can help to detect the early signs and allow you to take steps to prevent it causing long-term damage. Unfortunately, I am more aware than most of the importance of regular check-ups for those with diabetes so I hope that my involvement with this great Specsavers campaign can go some way to ensuring that everyone keeps on top of their eye health."
