The Chinese Rowing Association is the national governing body for rowing in China, responsible for leading elite athlete development and Olympic performance. Ahead of the Tokyo and Paris Olympic Games, the CRA were looking to appoint a new High Performance Director as part of its ambitious strategy to increase its Olympic medal haul and establish China as a leading force in the world of rowing.
APPOINTMENT
In 2018, the Chinese Rowing Association appointed Steve Redgrave as High Performance Director for its national rowing team, marking the first time the organisation had recruited a high-profile figure from outside China to support its elite programme. Tasked with increasing the team’s medal haul at the Tokyo Olympics, Sir Steve introduced high-performance systems designed to deliver long-term success beyond his immediate tenure. By building a culture of innovation, collaboration and excellence across the programme, he helped guide the Chinese Rowing Team to its highest-ever Olympic medal table finish.
