Laureus Sport for Good
"You could see the delight in her eyes and the pride in what she had achieved"
Sir Steve Redgrave
Sir Steve became a recipient of the prestigious Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 and, today, sits on the Executive Committee working with Sport for Good, the charitable organisation with a remit to prove that the power of sport can change the world and put an end to violence, discrimination and disadvantage.
Steve continues to support various projects across the world and when in Sri Lanka to visit a Foundation of Goodness community sports project, he presented a prize to a young girl whose artwork had triumphed in a worldwide drawing competition called 'Time to Inspire'.
"I have taken part in some important and exciting Laureus events but I think being able to travel to Sri Lanka to meet young Kumara and give her this prize was one of the best moments I have had," recalls Steve. "You could see the delight in her eyes and the pride in what she had achieved."
Tackling society's most pressing challenges around the globe, Laureus' projects aim to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals via a network of National Foundations in Argentina, France, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the United States.
